Why is a Crown Beneficial for You?

As one of the most common dental procedures out there, a crown is also one of the most useful for many people. A crown is a dentist-inserted, custom cap which covers a full tooth – from the top chewing surface all the way to the base gum line.

At Caring Smiles Dental Clinic, our highly qualified team has years of experience inserting and maintaining crowns for patients who need them. We offer same day crowns as part of our emergency dental care services.

What are some of the common reasons crowns are useful? Let’s take a look.

One primary use of crowns is as a restorative treatment for one or more teeth. Crowns can help during the later stages of repairing damage to the structure or enamel of a tooth, and can help address decay in many situations.

Other procedures are often involved here as well, but the crown is by far the most common way to complete these treatments with a solid covering that will both prevent sensitivity and protect the tooth moving forward.

Preventing Issues

Once crowns are in, they’re very useful for preventing future issues that commonly crop up in damaged teeth. Some of these issues might include:

  • Tooth wear (often from grinding or other decay)
  • Tooth loss
  • Cracked or broken teeth
  • Sensitivity to temperature

Simple Procedure

Another reason crowns are so popular is the ease with which they can be inserted. Your dentist will take an impression of the shape of the tooth that needs a crown, and then this impression is used to craft your custom crown. Anesthesia for the actual insertion will vary from case to case, but usually is mild to moderate.

Many dentists have to send out their impressions for multiple weeks, but at Caring Smiles, we craft our own crowns in-house. You can often complete the entire crown process in a single day without ever leaving the office.

Quality and Appearance

Most crowns will enhance the appearance of your teeth. They instantly solve issues like discoloration or staining, and will also generally cover issues like bent or cracked teeth. For this reason, plenty of people choose crowns in their teeth even when they aren’t truly necessary for preventative or restorative purposes.

Quality of the crown is very important also, and at Caring Smiles, our crowns are expertly crafted to last for years and remain durable through all the expected wear and tear a tooth goes through.
